ANNOUNCING THE WORLD’S 50 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE REVOLUTIONISING GOVERNANCE FOR 2021

The list highlights national and local politicians, civil servants and entrepreneurs employing new and dynamic policy techniques to navigate disruption

 

Apolitical, the learning platform for government, and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Agile Governance have announced the Agile 50 List 2021: The World’s 50 Most Influential People Revolutionising Governance.

 

This year, the Agile 50 list recognizes the contributions of leaders in agile governance for navigating disruption. These are leaders who have pioneered innovative approaches to manage global challenges: the pandemic, climate change, social unrest and technological change.

The list lauds forward-looking leaders including:

  • Ana Brnabi?, Prime Minister, Serbia
  • Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation, Ukraine
  • H.E. Ohood Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, United Arab Emirates

  • Ailish Campbell, Ambassador of Canada to the European Union ·


Examples of how the list’s leaders have advanced agile policy making:

  • Overseeing the release of regulatory review roadmaps aimed at helping create a more modern and agile regulation system (Jean-Yves Duclos, President, Treasury Board of Canada)
  • Leading an insightful series of COVID-19 themed foresight analyses, distributed to Singapore government members, to socialise the importance of foresight and agility (Jeanette Kwek, Head, Centre for Strategic Futures (CSF), Singapore
  • Establishing partnerships to employ sandbox and living labs projects in different regions in Brazil, under the Brazil Agency for Industrial Development Smart Cities initiative (Igor Nogueira Calvet, President, Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI)) 
  • Overseeing the rapid introduction of innovative solutions like drive-through testing, shopping mall vaccine centres, and transforming public transport buses into mobile testing and vaccination units (Hamad AlMahmeed, Undersecretary for Research and Projects in the Prime Minister's Office, Bahrain) 
  • Driving the UK Department for Education's Get Help with Technology programme—involving rapid, iterative, integrated and agile policymaking and delivery to get over one million laptops out to the young people who needed them (Rachel Hope, Deputy Director, Department for Education, UK)
  • Leading a reimagining government initiative (Global Practice on the Future of Government) to identify transformation pathways to seize the opportunities presented by COVID-19 and the climate crisis (Edward Olowo-Okere, Global Director, Governance Global Practice, World Bank Group)
