Representing clients as senior counsel for Davis Polk & Wardwell since 1996, Mr. Reid was first employed as an associate attorney in 1957. He subsequently spent 31 years as a partner from 1964 to 1995. During his tenure, Mr. Reid was also a director of General Mills, Inc., for 15 years. Mr. Reid first earned his undergraduate degree at Yale University in 1951, during which time he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Serving active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1951 to 1953, he then completed an LLB magna cum laude at Harvard University in 1956. The following year, he began working at Davis Polk & Wardwell. He was admitted to the Michigan Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the D.C. Bar Association, and the Tokyo Bar as Gaikokuho Jimu-Bengoshi, Japan.
Representing the firm's New York City office, Mr. Reid has maintained interest in his surrounding communities for many years. Using his talents, he has served on the board of directors for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Corporation twice, from 1977 to 1992, and from 1996 to 2010. He was also active on the board of directors for the Bargemusic Ltd. in the early 1990s. A longtime affiliate with the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, Mr. Reid served as a trustee two times for a total of 26 years and was chairman for 5 years. He was also a member of the New York City Board of Higher Education for two years in the early 1970s.
A longstanding member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association, and the American Law Institute, Mr. Reid is active with several avocational organizations as well, including the Quoque Beach Club, the Shinnecock Yacht Club, the Quoque Field Club, and the Height Casino (Brooklyn) and the Century Association (New York). Married to Carroll Grylls since 1953 with four children and twelve grandchildren, Mr. Reid has been included in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1987, every edition of Who's Who in the East since 2001, and in numerous editions of Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the World.
