SightMD today announced that families in the greater Manhattan area will soon have increased access to comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology services thanks to the addition of board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist Eunice, M. Kohara, DO, who will begin accepting new patients in Manhattan on February 10, 2018, according to eye surgeon, Jeffrey Martin, MD, FACS, Chief Executive Officer of SightMD.
“We’re seeing a growing need for expanded pediatric services in many of our locations throughout the city and across Long Island,� said Dr. Martin. “The addition of a fellowship-trained, board certified pediatric ophthalmic surgeon with Dr. Kohara’s extensive experience and training will be well received by everyone with children in Manhattan. Dr. Kohara is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of pediatric and adult strabismus, as well as the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of all childhood eye conditions. Her advanced training and experience also includes treating children with special needs, including Autism, Down Syndrome, and genetic disorders and other syndromes. Her goals are to help each child develop healthy eyes and achieve their best possible vision.
“I love taking care of my patients and their families,� said Dr. Kohara. Since completing her fellowship training and starting her medical career, Dr. Kohara’s focus has been twofold. “My mission is to not only help patients achieve and maintain a lifetime of the best possible vision, but to establish the same kind of compassionate relationships with them that I would with my family. I’ve always had a passion for helping children of all ages – including those with special needs – and I look forward to working closely with families in the greater Manhattan area to help preserve, protect and restore their children’s vision.�
After receiving her medical degree from Touro University California, College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Kohara went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital/Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where she served as chief resident. She then performed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Wills Eye Hospital.
She is fellowship-trained to perform a wide variety of pediatric ophthalmic surgeries, including pediatric and adult strabismus surgery, cataract surgery, tear duct surgery, and oculoplastic surgery. Dr. Kohara also treats adults with eye muscle disorders and double vision stemming from a wide variety of causes, including thyroid disorders, cranial nerve disorders, tumors, and long-standing strabismus. She utilizes both medical and surgical treatment to achieve the best possible results for her patients in accordance with their goals.
Dr. Kohara is a member of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology & Otolarygology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
