NEW YORK February 08, 2018
The Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre (PCMT) at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) is showing three original productions starting on Friday, Feb. 9, as part of its Winter 2018 New Works Series. The eighth new work series from NYFA since 2014, the series will bring to life the stories of Echo and How the Westons Won, with a Contemporary Composer Concert to wrap up an eclectic mix of productions.
The series begins with Echo, directed by Rachel Stevens and with musical direction from Anna Ebbesen. The show is a chamber piece that weaves a trilogy of contemporary tales around a re-imagining of the myth of Echo and Narcissus. Echo features music and lyrics by Anna Jacobs.
The following day, How the Westons Won will tell the story of two teenagers who accidently bring to life a toy diorama with Buffalo Bill, George Custer, Geronimo, Calamity Jane and a young Native American squaw. After interacting with the mythical characters, the group learns to deal with their family’s dysfunction and move forward. How The Westons Won features book and lyrics by R.C. Staab and music by Aaron Latina. The production will be directed by Joe Barros, with music direction from Joshua Zecher-Ross. Luis Villabon will serve as associate director.
Later that day, Bobby Cronin will direct an evening of songs written by some of today’s most exciting composers and lyricists, selected and tailored specifically for the cast. William Demaniow will provide musical direction.
