A woman-owned and family run small business makes a big impact internationally.

Every 90 seconds a child dies from a water-borne illness. GROSCHE International Inc. is working to change that. GROSCHE co-founders Helmi Ansari and Mehreen Sait had a close call with their daughter battling water-borne cholera while travelling overseas. Cholera can be fatal, especially in young children. So, they decided to dedicate the rest of their lives to helping those that struggle with contaminated water. To fund their cause for safe drinking water around the world, small business owners Ansari and Sait originally started selling tea from the basement of their home. Today GROSCHE is an international brand and supplier of premium housewares products, ranging from craft brew coffee and espresso to teapots, glassware, to infuser bottles. Every GROSCHE product sold funds 50+ days of safe water for people in need through the GROSCHE Safe Water Project. Going beyond corporate social responsibility (a CSR program), they are actively working on at least 4 UN sustainable development goals (SDG).Today, GROSCHE is celebrating a major milestone. They have funded over 100 million days of safe drinking water through the installation of Biosand water filters. They’ve installed them in South Sudan, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Malawi, and the Philippines. Biosand filters are a unique way of filtering and purifying water that contains dangerous bacteria, viruses, and even worms. They don’t require electricity, cartridges or replacement parts, and last up to 30 years. They need little to no maintenance.“It’s a dream come true for us to see the small business we started a few years ago as an international success story today. And also to see it have such a positive impact on people’s lives,” said Mehreen Sait, president and co-founder. “Building a business with sustainability, ethics, and social purpose is the best way to change the world. Its social entrepreneurship”GROSCHE is a certified Benefit Corporation (BCorp) and a social enterprise. And they fund their work with the sales of their coffee and tea products in major retailers like Hudson’s Bay and Bed Bath and Beyond.“Businesses represent 98% of the world’s economy, while charity is around 2%. To change the world in a big way, we have to leverage the power of business. You don’t have to be a billionaire philanthropist like Bill Gates to help others, anyone can help with their next cup of delicious coffee or tea” says Ansari.GROSCHE International Inc. is a manufacturer of premium coffee, tea, and hydration products based in Cambridge, Ontario. They sell these products to raise money to help those in need get access to safe water. Their products are sold in thousands of retails stores across the USA and Canada. Every product sold funds 50+ days of safe water for those in need. When you fill your cup with GROSCHE coffee or tea, you’re also filling someone’s cup with safe water. #everycupfillsanother.
