United States, Connecticut, Norwalk – 04-30-2019 (PRDistribution.com) —
The Akademos course materials platform will provide affordable textbooks to students and open space for a new retail shop.
Furthering its mission to enrich the academic experience and engagement of its students, the University of South Dakota is addressing the rising cost of education through an innovative partnership with Akademos, an online course materials platform. Starting June 1, USD will implement a hybrid bookstore solution with Akademos providing online bookstore services and the university operating a retail fan shop in the former bookstore location on campus.
The second location of Charlie’s – USD’s retail fan shop operated by the university’s marketing department – will support campus customers for both textbooks and retail purchases. Just like its downtown Vermillion counterpart, a portion of all proceeds from Charlie’s are donated back to USD student scholarships.
“We fully support the University of South Dakota in taking this innovative step to increase access and improve affordability while continuing to serve the on-campus needs of their students. USD joins a growing number of universities who recognize the need to modernize their course materials platform,” said Raj Kaji, CEO, Akademos. “We’re delighted that after a thorough and competitive process, USD has selected Akademos to support their mission and provide a course materials platform that will foster the success of administration, faculty, and students.”
The online bookstore will support USD administration and faculty, who will benefit from a comprehensive Adoption & Analytics Portal. This platform offers a step-by-step guide for course material adoptions, recommendations, and adoption history, and the ability to compare real-time prices for course materials. The analytics tool will also enable leadership to track critical data, including student purchasing and bookstore utilization.
The Akademos platform also provides students with a wide selection of course material format options including new, used, eBook, and rental at significant savings in addition to 24x7x365 accessibility and free shipping for all retail orders of new and used books over $49. Students can access these materials through the university-branded course materials website that conveniently integrates student courses, associated course materials, and multiple purchasing options with a single sign-on. The integration with university technology systems will make the new bookstore a seamless extension of the USD student experience.
Akademos provides higher education institutions with a full-service online platform to manage course materials, from monitoring adoptions and compliance to purchasing textbooks to measuring utilization. More than just an online bookstore, we give school administrators a single platform to streamline course adoptions and meet compliance regulations. For students, the platform simplifies the purchasing and access of materials through a personalized portal that connects with school SIS, LMS, and payment systems. Akademos gives colleges and universities a more transparent, convenient, and cost-effective solution to manage how course materials are used and measured, helping to improve textbook affordability and student success.
