The new electronic visa system is currently available for Australian nationals who wish to visit Brazil for short-term visits. In the coming days, the eVisa will be rolled out for American, Canadian and Japanese citizens.

BRASILIA, Brazil, January 5, 2018 – Brazil launched an electronic visa system for citizens of Australia who wish to visit the country for short-term stays. The eVisa for Brazil is valid for two consecutive years and grants visitors a stay of 90 days per year. It is expected that the electronic visa for Brazil will be rolled out for Japan as of January 11th; for Canada, as of January 18th; and for the U.S. as of January 25th.
The new system was proposed by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) along with the support of the Ministry of Tourism (MT). The electronic visa is a move in hopes to increase tourism in Brazil. The countries of Australia, Japan, Canada, and the U.S. made up 60 percent of all visa applications for Brazil in 2015.
Rafael Luisi, head of the International Relations Office of the Ministry of Tourism, said, “Before tourists had to take all their documentation and bring it to the Brazilian Consulate and it would take 30 to 40 days to receive the visa.” The electronic visa, on the other hand, is a simplified system that improves the speed of the visa processing. Visitors who meet the requirements will no longer have to travel to their nearest Brazilian consulate to obtain the visa.
The Brazil eVisa is an electronic visa that can be used for tourism, business, medical treatment, and education purposes among many other reasons. It is important that visitors do not exceed the 90-day stay per year. If the passport expires before the visa, it will be necessary to apply for a new electronic visa for Brazil.
Individuals can obtain the visa online by completing the Brazil eVisa application form. Applicants should have a valid passport, a current email address to receive the approved electronic visa, and a method of payment such as a debit or credit card to pay the respective visa fee. Once approved, the Brazil eVisa will be sent to the applicant’s email in downloadable PDF format. Visitors should have a printed copy of the eVisa at airport check-in and at passport control when landing in Brazil.
