Eleventh right whale found dead off Miscou Island, New Brunswick

After a surveillance flight, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) confirmed that the carcass of a North Atlantic right whale was found off Miscou Island, New Brunswick.

DFO is not in a position to confirm whether the same impacted black whale was found off the Gaspé Peninsula.

To date, the death of 11 right whales in the North Atlantic has been confirmed in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The resThe Department can not confirm that this whale is the same that was observed entangled off the Gaspé Peninsula at the end of August.

The observed right whale has not been seen since the first and only observation on 28 August.

Aircraft and boats were sent but were unable to find the whale.
