Former NB Health Minister Furlong Dies At 72

The former New Brunswick Health Minister and physician Dennis Furlong has passed away at the age of 72. He was fighting a battle with a brain tumor that was diagnosed in December. He had to finally succumb to the tumor.

Furlong was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick. He represented the Dalhousie-Restigouche East during the period 1999 to 2003. During his tenure, he served as the Minister of Health and Community Services. He also looked after the portfolios of the Minister of Health and Wellness and Minister of Education.

He was a well-respected person. Condolences have been pouring in from far and wide right from his patients, colleagues as well as the present and the past politicians of New Brunswick.

There was a statement issued by the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. Mr. Blaine Higgs said that he had enjoyed and learned a lot from the conversations that he had with Furlong.

The New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant has said his condolence message that he was deeply saddened to hear the passing away of former Health Minister Dennis Furlong.

Dennis was born on July 22, 1945, in St. John’s, N.L. He was a long-time physician and served the people of Dalhousie for about 40 years.
