AeroNet is confirmed as an applicant for "Uniendo a Puerto Rico" Fund support

2020-09-22 16:00:00 - Guaynabo, Puerto Rico - (PR Distribution™)

AeroNet continues its mission to assist Puerto Rico in the telecommunications sector.

Three years after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, the people on the Island continue to carry on their efforts to recover from the economic, social, and cultural damage caused by the natural phenomenon.

Many companies and institutions have expressed their intention to cooperate and work towards recovery. One such organization is the Puerto Rican telecommunications company, AeroNet, recognized nationally as the first local Internet provider to be listed by Inc. 5000, from Inc. magazine.

Late last week, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that AeroNet is one of five local companies to file an application for financial support through the “Uniendo a Puerto Rico” program.  Support will be awarded to qualified providers at the ‘municipio’ level through a competitive process. Recipients should be announced in a few months.

“It’s been almost 20 years since I founded AeroNet to solve a personal need for Internet access. Today, I am proud to prove that our team is 100% committed to meeting that same need, but for the people of Puerto Rico. 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone; at AeroNet, we take this challenge as one of growth and support for our Island.” explained Gino Villarini, Founder and President of AeroNet. “We are pleased that the FCC has acknowledged the filing of our application.”

The “Uniendo a Puerto Rico” program is designed to strengthen, improve, and expand the broadband network and telecommunications systems of Puerto Rico.

For the program, only local companies were eligible to participate. AeroNet, as a leading company at local and national level, is part of the process. Over the past few years, AeroNet has invested more than $3 million to recover broadband service in Puerto Rico.

Both the effects of Hurricane Maria and the current Covid-19 crisis have shown the importance of maintaining wireless, fast, and secure communication routes to face current and future challenges.
