West Hartford, CT— On a mission to create a safe and sustainable world, Yoku Fans, a company born amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, aims to revolutionize airflow with its carefully designed and meticulously crafted bladeless ceiling fan.
Introducing the Yoku bladeless ceiling fan—utilizing spinning discs instead of pitched blades to circulate air throughout a room, the company says their fan can combat coronavirus, save energy, and provide thermal comfort.
The unique airflow pattern created resembles that of a tornado, a Yoku fan mixes temperature variances in a room all while creating a comfortable breeze, reducing HVAC consumption, and sterilizing air.
Inspired by Nikola Tesla’s Turbine, Yoku Fans has reversed Tesla’s original engine design, reengineering airflow by enabling air intake through a central inlet while expelling it from the disc periphery. This way, air travels through the central cavity and utilizes surrounding ceilings and walls to help with air circulation in a closed environment. All the while, emitting a UVC light parallel to the floor, thereby damaging a viral cell’s ability to replicate. Simple, but highly effective.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UVC lights are considered to be the safest on the UV light spectrum and recognized for their sterilizing properties, often used in hospitals as agents against airborne microorganisms, pathogens, bacteria, and viruses.
CEO and Founder Ron Sasonov, a former commercial real estate analyst at the UBS Investment Bank, states that he was initially motivated to move the project forward due to the energy efficiencies achieved as companies and consumers prioritize sustainability. He claims that the bladeless ceiling fan’s airflow pattern can “materially reduce HVAC consumption without compromising, but rather increasing thermal comfort” and further comments on its uniquely embellished design.
With the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Sasonov recognized the potential of incorporating UVC LED lights to the fan’s original design—the final push needed to green light mass production. His team invented a patent pending dual directional lighting apparatus which enables a germicidal UVC light set to work in tandem with cool white LED lights, without interference between the two light sources. The Yoku Fan is uniquely positioned to leverage UVC technology in concert with its inverse cyclonic airflow pattern, as every air molecule flows past the UVC lights and constantly recirculated.
