10/18/2019 08:00 - United States, District of Columbia - (PR Distribution™)

On November 14-15, the World Bank, Amazon AWS, and others will join the Summit on Closing the Global Skills Gap in Washington, DC, summit.saylor.org.  The Summit is hosted by the Saylor Academy in partnership with Meridian International Center.  Leaders in international higher education, economic and education ministers, diplomats interested in education and other leaders are invited to attend.

Recently confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr. Sheila Jagannathan, Global Head, Digital Learning and Capacity Building at the World Bank
  • Ken Eisner, Director of Worldwide Education Programs, Amazon Web Services (AWS),
  • Dr. Manish Kumar, Managing Director of National Skills Development Corporation,
  • Dr. Bakary Diallo, CEO of African Virtual University, among others.

The Global Skills Gap is the chasm between the knowledge/technology and other skilled work available and the education and skills available in the workforce.

UNESCO estimates that, by the year 2025, there will be nearly 100 million young people able to learn new skills, however, they may not have access to universities or institutions to obtain those skills.

At present, these skills gaps manifest as talent shortages, underemployment/unemployment and poverty.  Innovative education solutions, and collaboration across sectors (and even across nations), will be needed to address these gaps and bring full workforce participation to developing and changing economies.

Saylor Academy, in partnership with Meridian International Center, present the Saylor Academy Summit on Closing the Global Skills Gap on November 14-15, 2019, in Washington, DC. The Closing the Global Skills Gap Summit will convene leaders from the World Bank, the National Skills Development Corporation, members of the private sector, higher education, and NGOs from around the world. More information on the agenda and speakers can be found at summit.saylor.org.

“Tackling the global skills gap requires the type of cross-functional thinking that Saylor Academy’s events promote, and we are pleased to partner with Meridian International Center to draw the type of influencers that will work to solve the problem in a way that expands access to the underserved who stand ready to contribute to the global economy with the right educational support   .”  stated Jeffery S. Davidson, Executive Director of Saylor Academy.
