Apolitical, a global public policy platform and network for government, has received the B Corporation certification. This prestigious designation is awarded to companies who use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems and meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
“Apolitical is proud to have received the B Corporation certification. We consider it an important standard and signal of values that all companies working with governments should try to reach,” said Robyn Scott, CEO and Co-Founder of Apolitical. “Time and time again we hear from public servants how they want to work with more companies that are committed to social good. We see this certification as not only the right thing to do but good for our bottom line.”
To become a Certified B Corporation, B Lab, the nonprofit that certifies and supports B Corporations, conducted a rigorous evaluation of Apolitical and determined the company met the comprehensive performance standards to qualify for certification. Now, unlike traditional corporations, Apolitical is committed to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and environment.
“Apolitical brings together public servants and the best ideas in government in more than 130 countries in a fun and easy way by harnessing the best of consumer tech. With sleek design and machine learning, we scour the world for smart ideas and inspire public sector innovators to solve society’s most critical problems. And there’s a huge amount at stake. The average OECD government spends more than 40% of its GDP on government. We help governments spend that more effectively and with better outcomes for citizens. The B Corporation certification helps us demonstrate that it is possible to build a business while remaining focussed on social impact,” said Lisa Witter, Co-Founder and Executive Chairwoman.
Apolitical is a mission-driven, for-profit company backed by mission-driven investors in Europe, North America, and Asia. Its funders and customers include the UK, Australian, and Canadian Governments, as well as the EU. It was named one of Fast Company’s 2018 Most Innovative Companies in the World in the Social Good category alongside Patagonia, Starbucks, and Salesforce.
Membership to Apolitical is free. In the future, Apolitical plans to introduce paid premium memberships, but will always have a free membership for public servants, non-profits, and academia. On Apolitical, members can find the solutions and partners they need to tackle the most urgent issues facing government and society - from catalysing government innovation to promoting gender equality. Apolitical covers a wide range of public policy issues, including climate change, women’s empowerment, violence prevention, AI, the future of work, digital transformation, smart cities, and public health.
Apolitical is the first global platform for government, helping public servants find the ideas, experts, and partners they need to solve the hardest challenges facing our societies. Apolitical is used by public servants in more than 130 countries including by mayors, ministers, and former heads of state.
