On April 5th Auctions at Showplace will present choice selections of fine art, furniture, silver, jewelry, and decorative arts all fresh to the market from New York City estates.
Showplace will again feature a strong selection of mid-century modern furniture and design including two Marcel Breuer for Gavina “Wassily” black leather armchairs, a Maitland Smith Hollywood Regency style console table, a Theodore Alexander “Kyloe” faux horn console table, an Eames aluminum desk chair, a Gilbert Rohde for Troy Sunshade low table, and two Flos Castiglioni and Manzu Parentesi suspension lamps. Those seeking traditional furniture will find a 19th century John Stokes Macclesfield Victorian tall case clock, a Renaissance Revival carved wood slide top table, a pair of antique American rustic stools, and a Rococo manner carved wood marble top wall mounted console table.
Fine art to hit the auction blocks features a colorful geometric composition by Taro Yamomoto, a folk art painting of monkeys by Lawrence Lebduska, a Haitian figural scene by Dieudonne Cedor, a city street scene by Bye Bitney, and a Brunel de Neuville antique oil on canvas showing playful kittens. The highlight in fine art is a fabulous Hudson River School landscape painted by George W. Waters in 1876. Measuring 25" H x 43" W the image depicts a farmer bringing a herd of cows in from the pasture.
Headlining the jewelry offerings are two Rolex timepieces, an oyster perpetual explorer chronometer wristwatch circa 1956, and a 1940’s vintage oyster Raleigh stainless steel mechanical wristwatch. An Edwardian 14K white gold filigree and diamond ring features a central round brilliant cut diamond of 0.75 ct, while an Edwardian platinum brooch has exquisite seed pearls and diamonds. And from a private collection comes fabulous costume jewelry by notable designers including Givenchy, Nina Ricci, Christian Lacroix, Lanvin, Les Bernard, Sorelli, and others, accompanied by a colorful group of Hermes scarves.
Exciting decorative arts include a collection of Herend figurines, fine art glass by Lalique, Baccart, and Daum, a vintage Gucci horn and leather lighter, a 19th century Swiss music box, a Frank Meisler sculpture of a lawyer, Native American jewelry, a group of seven Judaica silver kiddush cups, finely crafted silver and enamel cigarette boxes, Asian art and artifacts, and much more.
