February 3rd through February 16th
On February 16th Auctions at Showplace will present choice selections of fine art, furniture, silver, jewelry, and decorative arts all fresh to the market from New York City estates.
Exceptional 20th century works on paper include Lyonel Feininger's "Gelmerode" woodcut from an edition of one hundred, Ellsworth Kelly's "Dark Gray and White" screenprint and collage, and two handsome works by Louise Nevelson including her monumental lithograph "Untitled (Baro 94)." Leonardo Nierman is represented by a colorful acrylic on masonite and a gracefully curving bronze sculpture, while two Purvis Young folk art mixed media compositions strongly represent the important outsider artist's oeuvre. Other highlights in fine art include Josef Wopfner's "Chiemsee Fishermen" oil on panel, Charles T. Phelan's "Grazing Sheep" oil on canvas, Julien Jos' "Harvest Day" oil on canvas, and much more.
Luxury timepieces include an 18K yellow gold Rolex lady's diamond dial Date Just President bracelet watch, a Bulgari "Ergon" stainless steel chronograph wristwatch, a Corum 18K yellow gold ladies' wristwatch with five gram Swiss UBS ingot dial, an Omega 18K yellow gold gentleman's wristwatch, a Corum 18K yellow gold mechanical wristwatch, and a vintage Movado 14K yellow gold ladies' diamond watch. An impressive selection of fine jewelry includes a Slane and Slane 18K yellow gold chain necklace, a platinum and diamond eternity band, a San Marco 14K yellow gold bracelet, and an Edwardian 18K white gold, diamond, and sapphire ring.
Fine silver to be offered includes 92 pieces of Wallace "Grand Barqoue" flatware, a large service of German Art Deco flatware, a Bulgari sterling silver table globe, a pair of Judaica sterling silver rimonim torah finials, pieces by Tiffany & Co., Georg Jensen, and Gorham, a large collection of Native American silver and turquoise jewelry, and others.
A staple of Showplace's biweekly offerings is a top notch selection of mid-century modern furniture and lighting. On offer for February 16th is an Erwin & Estelle "Buttercup" acrylic chair, a Harry Bertoia for Knoll "Diamond" chair, an Eero Saarinen for Knoll tulip dining table and four tulip armchairs, a Hans Wegner attributed sofa, three Tobia Scarpa glass and chrome tables, and an assortment of Arredoluce and Stilnovo style lighting fixtures.
Other exciting items in the sale include a group of Papua New Guinea carved and painted wood tribal items including a shield, drum, and large snake sculpture, Jaeger LeCoultre and Imhof desk clocks, an Italian Mottahedeh "Alpaca" ceramic sculpture, a cast bronze baseball glove and ball, a vintage slot machine, and much more.
