Back-to-School Preparation Should Include Field-Based STEM Learning

08/29/2019 11:44 - United States, Illinois - (PR Distribution™)

With summer quickly winding down, educators across the country are beginning to prepare for the new school year. As lessons are planned and activities finalized, it's crucial that teachers keep in mind the benefits of field-based travel as a way to enhance the learning experience, especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Some kids dread going back to school simply because of the monotony each day brings. Field trip opportunities encourage children to explore STEM-related concepts outside the traditional classroom. By integrating hands-on experience with topics taught in class, students have a higher chance of finding a passion for these subjects and pursuing them in higher education.

“Each experience solidifies learning and supports academic structure. Concepts are presented through different media and different modalities, so those who struggle with traditional learning gain confidence,” said Jeff Gayduk, Publisher of Student Travel Planning Guide.

It’s a common consensus among educators and professionals that STEM subjects are increasing in importance. As many as 80 percent of careers in the next decade will require STEM skills. These subjects are the future, but the current graduating students are not equipped with the resources to greet it.

Schools are often plagued with repeat field trips due to tight geographical boundaries or lack of in-community opportunities. To combat this stalemate, Student Travel Planning Guide is featuring hundreds of STEM field trip destinations across the United States in its back-to-school edition. From Boston to San Diego, this guide aims to connect educators with STEM opportunities so that they can approach learning both in and outside the classroom.
