Danny Benau, Ph.D, Director of Biomedical Writing at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia was named "Top Professional of the Year in Biomedical Writing" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)! While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities. All honorees will be invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
With over 27 years of experience that he has dedicated to education and in medical writing, Dr. Benau has certainly proved himself as an accomplished professional, entrepreneur and leader in the industry. In 1991 Dr. Benau joined Wyeth-Ayerst Research as a Scientific Writer and worked there for 10 years. In 2002 he joined Sanofi-Synthelabo as a Medical Writing Project Leader and then joined the faculty of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2005. The University of the Sciences continues a life science and healthcare legacy that began almost 2 centuries ago as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
Danny was appointed Associate Professor of Biomedical Writing and became a full-time online faculty member. He was promoted to Director of Biomedical Writing Programs in 2008, a position that he continues to hold as of this release. He also notes that the Biomedical Writing Program is the only online degree-granting biomedical writing program in the world.
Dr. Benau earned his Ph.D in biology at Boston University and did his postdoctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania, first in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the UPenn School of Medicine and then in the Department of Biology. He dabbled with freelance medical writing while also earning a Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Benau attributes his success to his work ethic, imagination and drive. He will continue to grow as a professional, remain as an active member of his Synagogue, and continue his passions of photography and golf.
