Dr. Alice Berkowitz selected as Top Clinical & Forensic Psychologist of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

Dr. Alice R. Berkowitz, APC, Clinical & Forensic Psychologist in Private Practice was just recently selected as Top Clinical & Forensic Psychologist of the Year for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. 

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With over 3 decades of professional experience as a Clinical & Forensic Psychologist, Dr. Berkowitz has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, Dr. Berkowitz has demonstrated success not only as a Clinical & Forensic Psychologist, but also as a Child Custody Evaluator, Expert Witness, Neuropsychologist, Litigation Consultant, Educator in California, and throughout the U.S., Canada and in Military Courts. She has also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor for graduate students in Clinical & Counseling Psychology at the University of Southern California. Her impressive repertoire of prior roles includes Staff Psychologist for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Oral Examiner and Exam Writer for the California Board of Psychology. She has supervised and trained thousands of other professionals as psychotherapists, as well as forensic psychologists. She has also educated attorneys, judicial officers, litigants and other professionals through her work and speaking engagements. Based in Beverly Hills, California Dr. Berkowitz has served as an Evaluator, Expert Witness, Forensic Litigation Consultant and Educator throughout the U.S., Canada and worldwide in Family, Civil, Criminal and Military-Criminal court arenas.  


Dr. Berkowitz is a valued asset to the community, not one to shy away from working with difficult legal and therapeutic matters, she is a vocal advocate on behalf of the voiceless, particularly when it comes to children and victims of interpersonal (domestic) violence and abuse and those falsely accused. Whether performing child custody evaluations or as a reviewing expert hired to examine a completed evaluation or mismanaged case, as a legal consultant, a therapist or as an educator, she has extensive expertise in the areas of Addiction/Substance Abuse issues, Child Abuse (emotional, mental, physical, sexual), Child-Parent Conflict, CoParenting and Parenting Plan Issues, Blended Families, Developmental Stages, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Extreme Parental Conflict (“High Conflict”), General Custody and Visitation, Gatekeeping (Protective vs Restrictive), LGBTQIA families, Litigation Abuse, Mental Health and Mental Disorder Issues, Military/Veteran families, Neuropsychological Issues including Traumatic Brain Injuries (TMI) and developmental delays, Psychological Testing, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Relocation (“Move-Aways”), Resist/Refuse Dynamics (Estrangement or Parental Alienation) including successful interventions, recovery programs and protocols for severely alienated families and educating the courts, legal professionals and parents on such matters. 


Dr. Berkowitz earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Hahnemann Medical College, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California. Throughout her career Dr. Berkowitz has received awards, accolades and appreciations. She has been recognized for her outstanding leadership and commitment to those she serves. For 2019 she is being considered for the Empowered Women of the Year Award and was selected as Top Clinical & Forensic Psychologist of the Year by the International Association of Top
Professionals (IAOTP). She is also being considered to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. 


Aside from her successful career Dr. Berkowitz has also served as an active member and Diplomat for the American College of Forensic Examiners, the American Psychological Association, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, California Psychological Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, family Law Chapter, Los Angeles County Family Law Association, Editorial Board of the Journal of Addiction Medicine and Therapy, Editorial Board for the Journal of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Forensic Research and Criminology, the National Academy of  Neuropsychologists, and is on the panel of Government Appointed Civilian Experts for the Military in US and Overseas. Dr. Berkowitz also serves on the Board of Directors for the Parental Alienation Study Group. 


Looking back, Dr. Berkowitz attributes her success to her personal perseverance, the mentors she has had along the way, and her passion for helping people as well as advocating for the abused. When not working, teaching or researching, she enjoys writing, traveling, visiting museums, the ballet, reading literature and spending time with her family and close friends. For the future, she hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives anyway that she can.
