Dr. Farrokh Avraham Dilmanian, Professor of Research of Stony Brook University was just recently selected as Top Research Scientist of the Year for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP), for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the field.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With having more than 4 decades of professional experience as a Research Scientist and Professor, Dr. Dilmanian has certainly proven himself as an extraordinary professional, and expert in the field.Dr. Dilmanian is a dynamic, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success not only as a Professor of Research in the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Neurology, and Radiology for Stony Brook University Medical Center, but also working with the medical department at Brookhaven National Laboratory, as a visiting scientist with the Weizmann Institute of Science, and chief physicist at the Nuclear Medicine Division with Elscint Ltd. in Israel. Dr. Dilmanian’s key expertise is in research of radiation therapies, having utilized the tissue-sparing effects of arrays of parallel, thin or small x-ray or particle beams. The arrays are referred to as micro-beams when thinner than 0.3 mm, or mini-beams if they are 0.3 to 0.7 mm thick.The method has been applied to preclinical research in the treatment of the intracranial and subcutaneous tumors as well the spinal cord injury research.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dilmanian has received many awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. For 2019, he is being considered to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professional Magazine), and is also being considered for IAOTP’s Lifetime Achievement Award.For 2018 he was selected as Top Research Scientist of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).In 2017 he was recognized with Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for his leadership in radiology education.In 2008 he was honored for his many accomplishments with the First Long Island Technology Hall of Fame Patent Award. He is also active in many organizations and has maintained affiliation with the Radiation Research Society, the IEEE, the Nuclear Medical and Imaging Sciences Council and the Voice Against Brain Cancer.
Aside from his successful career, Dr. Dilmanian is a sought after scientist, educator, lecturer and has worked with numerous institutions as a visiting scientist who provided his skills and visionary knowledge. Dr. Dilmanian received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s of Science Degree in Physics by Technion the Israel Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and participated as a postdoctoral research associate with the University of Washington.
