Dr. Michael Ebertz Intervenes to Help Christmas for the Toys for Tots Fundraising Drive

01/04/2019 09:17 - MINNEAPOLIS, MN - (PR Distribution™)

To support Toys for Tots, especially in this year without the Toys R Us partnership, Dr. Michael Ebertz and the dermatology team at Skin Care Doctors, PA, really stepped up to help! Their four clinics in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and St. Cloud, Minnesota areas made a generous donation of both toys and money to Toys for Tots.

The practice was featured on NBC TV Station KARE11 for their support of Toys for Tots. On December 5, 2018, Dr. Ebertz presented a representative from the U.S. Marine Corps with Skin Care Doctors’ generous donation of $4,000 and over 110 toys! This truly was a team effort among the 50 employees, great staff doctors, and even patients.

Of Skin Care Doctors’ donation, Dr. Ebertz said, “We want to make sure that no child ever wakes up on Christmas morning without a toy underneath the Christmas tree.” And that’s something everyone can get behind!

Toys for Tots is well known for its annual holiday toy drive. Started in 1947 by Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks and his wife Diane, the organization collects new unwrapped toys and distributes them to less fortunate children at Christmas.

Toys for Tots has grown steadily each year since 1947. By the 1970s, Toys for Tots distributed an average of 6 million toys each Christmas! In 1990, the organization set several records in the Guinness Book of World Records, including a promotion that raised almost $3 million dollars in just 3 weeks!

In addition to its annual toy drive, the Toys for Tots Literacy Program was formed in 2008 to provide books for our country’s most economically disadvantaged children. Toys for Tots has also held special events over the years, including one in 2001 for children who lost a parent in the September 11th attacks and several for children in areas affected by hurricanes.

Many celebrities have championed Toys for Tots over the years by serving as spokespeople, including: John Wayne, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, George Strait, Charlton Heston, Sammy Davis, Jr., Andy Griffith, Clint Eastwood, Johnny Carson, Kenny Rogers, John Glenn, and Billy Ray Cyrus. First Ladies Nancy Reagan and Barbara Bush have also served as National Toys for Tots Spokespersons, and both Michelle Obama and Melania Trump have actively supported the Toys for Tots mission.

Over its 71 years in existence, Toys for Tots has distributed 548 million toys to 251 million American children. This would not have been possible without support from individuals as well as corporate sponsors. Some corporate sponsors include Hasbro (since 1997), Toys R Us (since 2003), Build-A-Bear Workshop (since 2007), and Hallmark (since 2014).

In 2017, Toys for Tots distributed 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children! There was some concern in 2018 since corporate sponsor Toys R Us closed all of its U.S. stores earlier this year. Not only was Toys R Us a financial supporter of Toys for Tots, but their stores also served as donation drop-off locations, so this was a double-blow to the organization. Toys for Tots struggled to make up for the usual donations by the toy store giant.
