Professor Dr. Vinod Gauba, founder and CEO of Imperial Healthcare Institute has been elected to serve on the the Board of Directors of the United Nations Global Compact UAE network. The main function of this Board involves channeling their experience and knowledge towards supporting the Local Network as it continues its mission to mobilize the private sector around the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.
On the role, Prof Gauba commented “It is a real privilege for Imperial Healthcare to be able to serve the United Nations Global Compact at board level in the UAE. It will provide us the opportunity to serve our community in ways beyond the delivery of superlative healthcare. We are committed to ensure that our participation is beneficial to the network by working with local businesses, NGOs and government bodies to further the UNGC’s ten principles and 17 SDGs within the UAE in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda.”
Imperial Healthcare Institute is a regional hub for specialized eye care in Dubai Healthcare City. It is dedicated to providing excellence in clinical care by adhering to the highest International clinical standards and delivering world class expertise in an integrated multi- specialty environment. The facility provides day care surgery, outpatient diagnostics and treatments for a variety of surgical and non-surgical eye conditions from eyelid rejuvenation through to complex trauma and sight threatening diseases.
The organization has its foundations in the United Arab Emirates since 1978 with the facility in Dubai Healthcare City inaugurated in 2008. The company has seen regional expansion in Abu Dhabi last year along with a state-of-the-art center in Muscat to commence operations this summer. Its international presence includes upcoming centres in East Africa and on Harley Street in London.
The United Nations Global Compact is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative mobilizing a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the world we want. The Local Networks advance corporate sustainability at the grassroots level by accompanying companies in their journey towards implementing responsible business practices and contributing to the SDGs.
Global Compact Network UAE was launched in 2015, and over the past few years, has successfully raised awareness on and supported implementation of the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the SDGs within its specific country context. It currently works with 137 organizations, of which 116 are companies.
Crafted as a multi-stakeholder body, Global Compact Network UAE's Board will provide ongoing strategic and policy advice for the Local Network in the UAE and be instrumental in helping to bring business to the table in support of the 2030 Agenda.
