GREENVILLE, N.C. (November 22, 2021) – Former news anchor and journalist Maria Satira released her first book this month that is focused on helping nonprofit organizations create and maintain effective media relations strategies. An Introduction to Media Relations for Nonprofit Organizations was published on November 5, 2021 by Maria Satira Media. In its first few days on Amazon, the book earned rankings as the second best-selling new release under public relations, 11th best-selling overall under public relations, and 25th best-selling new release under marketing and sales.

“After nearly a decade as a broadcast news anchor and reporter, I’ve had the pleasure of helping dozens of nonprofits share their stories,” said Maria Satira. “I know the important work that these organizations are doing and I hope my book serves as a resource for them to secure earned media opportunities.”

An Introduction to Media Relations for Nonprofit Organizations explores key issues that nonprofit organizations face when sharing their stories with local and regional media outlets. It also offers essential information that nonprofits should consider in terms of strategy, pitching, and networking.

“My journalism career connected me with several nonprofits where I served as a board member, director, advisor, and volunteer. It became a personal passion to help these organizations thrive in terms of marketing and public relations,” added Satira. “Over the years, I’ve also worked with nonprofits from across the nation develop public relations strategies to get attention from media outlets. The information in this book will address common challenges and offer unique solutions and ideas.”

Satira worked with Lita P. Ward of LPW Editing & Consulting Services, LLC. Ward, who has worked with self-publishing authors nationwide, served as the editor and consultant for this book.

“It was an honor to work with Maria. She was meticulous and wanted to ensure her content entailed clarity and meaningful information that her audience could benefit from,” said Ward.

As a current nonprofit employee herself, Satira works as the director of marketing and communications for the Greenville Eastern North Carolina (ENC) Alliance. Before joining the economic development organization in September 2020, she was a news anchor at WNCT-TV in Greenville for nearly seven years. She also spent time in Winchester, Virginia; Wilmington, North Carolina; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“Through this book, my goal is to help nonprofits get the media attention that they deserve. A lot of that comes down to properly pitching a story and maintaining professional relationships,” added Satira. “If this book is able to help just one nonprofit enhance their media relations strategy, I will consider it a success.”
