From New York to Hamburg: Historic tall ship PEKING to become Hamburg’s new maritime landmark

2020-09-08 16:00:00 - Germany, Hamburg, Hamburg - (PR Distribution™)

Hamburg (Germany) / New York, 8 September 2020

The PEKING, a four-masted barque, was the beacon of the South Street Seaport Museum in New York and shaped the view of New York's historic harbour for over four decades. And now, this impressive sailing ship is back at its original home port of Hamburg, where it was built in 1909 at the Blohm + Voss shipyard. Thus, as many as 88 years elapsed between the vessel’s last departure and its return. Now fully refurbished, the impressive tall ship that breathes New York history will soon be one of the highlights of the new German Port Museum in Hamburg. The PEKING left New York already in 2017 after having been prepared for the long voyage across the Atlantic at the Caddel shipyard on Staten Island. After a spectacular journey in a floating dock and following extensive refurbishment in Germany, the ship was greeted with a huge welcome event in the port of Hamburg. The PEKING is scheduled to be open for public visits in the summer of 2021.
