Geospatial Platform With Reinforcement Learning in Aerospace

08/07/2019 05:00 - United States - (PR Distribution™)

VBTansform 2019, was a largest AI conference (the AI event of the year) held at San Francisco, CA by VentureBeat Magazine. Accenture Chief Data Scientist, Dr. Ganapathi Pulipaka attended and joined 900 AI executives and practitioners (director-and-above C-Suite) from innovative brands with leading best practices and spoke along with other 120 speakers with disruptive emerging companies who presented more than 48 sessions. Several exhibitors from top tier brands like Accenture, Google, Verizon, IBM, Amazon, Cisco, Oracle, New York University, Microsoft, Uber, Data Robot, Intel, eBay, Johnson and Johnson, GE, Gap, Lyft, Etsy, Kohl’s, New York Times, Amazon and many more brand speakers showcased their AI products and presented stories about real business results with their production strategies around the deployment with specialists in this area with practical lessons from their deployments and took the audience on a journey of disruptive AI technologies to keep an eye on. The sessions focused on six AI trends on natural language processing, smart speech, computer vision, Business AI integration, implementing AI across organization, IoT and AI at the Edge, intelligent RPA and automation.

Reinforcement learning has been disruptive and the history of AI has showed that it took the gaming industry by storm. Unity Technologies gaming development captures more than 50% of world’s mobile games market.  Danny Lange, VP and AI and Machine Learning from Unity Technologies was on stage on how AI is changing the gaming industry with reinforcement learning.  There were two more sessions that were conducted on reinforcement learning, the first being the main-stage talk from the Co-founders of OpenAI (cofounded by the billionaire Elon Musk in 2016 who exited OpenAI this year to shift complete focus on Tesla and SpaceX), Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever covered reinforcement learning on the topics of OpenAI Five that had a success rate of 99.4%. The second mainstage session was led by the recognized expert and highest profile data scientist in the field, Dr. Ganapathi Pulipaka, influential machine learning executive of the year recognized by Analytics Insight spoke on reinforcement learning. Dr. GP works as Chief Data Scientist and SAP Technical Lead for one of the largest corporations in the world at Accenture. He has more than 20+ years of experience in the field of AI strategy, architecture, application development and machine learning, deep learning algorithms, experience in deep reinforcement algorithms and IoT and SAP platforms.  He is also an author, global premier speaker, and Postdoc research scholar in Computer Science Engineering in AI, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics as part of Doctor of Computer Science program. He is a bestselling author of two books “The Future of Data Science and Parallel Computing: A Road to Technological Singularity” and “Big Data Appliances for In-Memory Computing – A Real World Research Guide for Corporations to Tame and Wrangle Their Data.” Dr. GP currently authors a Deep Reinforcement Learning Cookbook in PyTorch with a popular publishing company to scale the AI across the enterprise for robotics and other business industries, along with IoT and Edge computing project implementations. Dr. GP took the audience on a high-octane adrenaline ride on reinforcement learning covering more than 15 industries like healthcare, manufacturing, smart cities, smart infrastructure, industrial IoT, robotics, text mining, natural language processing, finance, games, physics, recommendation systems, space exploration, retail, and supply chain management production deployments on reinforcement learning and the RL algorithms in the field of robotics with policy optimization, model-free reinforcement learning, policy gradients with trust region policy optimization, proximal policy optimization, bootstrapping, Monte Carlo methods, actor-critic methods, on-policy (SARSA), off-policy (Q-Learning), Deep-Q-Network, Markov decision processes, and dynamic programming.

Dr. GP spoke about Rolls Royce, Boeing, and Airbus in aerospace who invested billions of dollars to build Smart Fuel System by putting 10,000 sensors in the wings of the airplanes for aircraft safety and tracking fuel system.  Dr. GP spoke how 100s of airlines in the industry can implement smart fuel system, intelligence IoT system powered by reinforcement learning that proposes alternative routes in real-time based on the weather conditions, meteorological events like thunderstorms and lightning and improve the MRO (Maintenance, repairs, and operations) of the entire aircraft. This area is largely untapped by any artificial intelligence software at present. Dr. GP also spoke about building a geospatial platform powered by satellites in the aircrafts with reinforcement learning that can provide live-analysis of catastrophes and reroute the plane on the fly. Dr. GP also is a top influencer of reinforcement learning on Twitter who shares research papers on Twitter and his ideas and perspectives on how reinforcement learning can aid the businesses to build a Great America.
