Hail and High Winds Wreak Havoc on Wisconsin Homes

2021-09-10 09:00:00 - Appleton, Wisconsin, United States - (PR Distribution™)

This week, western Wisconsin was hit with some pretty severe storms. Those storms brought damaging hail and winds, leaving many homeowners wondering what to do next.

Though rare in the Appleton area, these hail and high winds can cause serious damage to homes and businesses, leading to leaky roofs, siding, and more. One such storm hit west-central Wisconsin and east-central Minnesota over Labor Day weekend of 2021. Anthony Walsh of DuraShield Contracting out of Appleton, Wisconsin, says this is one of the worst storms he’s seen since 2010.

“We have been inspecting roofs and properties all over the Fox Cities and finding damage to roofs, gutters, and siding. The areas we are finding damage include Appleton, Mackville, Greenville, Hortonville, Freedom, Wrightstown, Kimberly and Kaukauna. Some of this damage is some of the worst we’ve seen in decades.”

Some areas around Appleton, Wisconsin saw record-breaking hail sizes that are said to have been the third largest hailstones ever reported.

If you’re a homeowner in one of these areas, the best thing you can do is contact a local roofer or, better yet, an exterior contracting company to inspect your home for hail and storm damage. A good inspection could help you get your damage repaired at no cost to you.

As you search for a contractor to start working with to repair your home, be sure that they fit these criteria. You’ll want your contractor to have local references of work done well. Check the BBB website to ensure that they’re in good standing, ask for a copy of their Wisconsin license, and a copy of their liability and workers compensation insurance. These criteria will help you to determine that you’re hiring a professional and long-standing contractor.

Insurance companies will want to see an inspection report as soon as possible, with many companies implementing deadlines for when they’ll accept claims. The sooner you can make a claim for damage on your home, the better.

DuraShield has been offering its exterior contracting services since 2003 and has helped countless homeowners navigate the process of storm damage repairs. If you were one of those affected by the recent hailstorms, contact DuraShield for your free roof inspection.
