Horacio A. Sosa received a certification from the Florida Bar as a board certified Elder Law Attorney.
The seasoned Law practitioner lived up to the Standards of the certification for him to be duly awarded the certification. And as a result of this certification, Horacio Sosa is now a bona fide Board Certified Specialist in Elder Law, and this became effective from June 1.
This certification is a voluntary program for lawyers, approved by the Florida Supreme Court and administered by the Florida Bar. Attorneys certified by the board are the only lawyers that can use the terms Specialist, or B.C.S for Board Certified Specialist when referring to their legal credentials.
The slogan of the Florida Bar, “Evaluated for Professionalism, Tested for Expertise," plays a vital role in the evaluation procedures for the certification to lawyers. Among the essential actions carried out by the Florida Bar to evaluate Lawyers before administering the certification include:
- Evaluation for experience in a particular area of Law
- Evaluation for expertise in a specific area of Law
- Evaluation for professionalism in the practice of Law
- Evaluation for ethics in the practice of Law
More so, lawyers who are to be certified in any of the 27 certification fields must be members who are in good standing of the Florida Bar, and they must meet the standards prescribed by the state's Supreme Court.
Horacio Sosa is a member in good standing of the Florida Bar, has lived up to the standards of the state’s Supreme Court, and passed the evaluation procedures before he was certified as an elder law attorney.
The certification remains the highest level of evaluation by the Florida Bar of the competency and experience of the over 100,000 attorneys in Florida. Amazingly, only 7% of about 100,000 attorneys are board certified in one of the 27 practice areas. With this certification, Florida lawyers are free to refer to themselves as board-certified specialists or append the letters B.C.S to their legal credentials.

Note, there are just about 110 board certified attorneys in Elder Law in Florida and only about 30 board certified attorneys in Elder Law in Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties.
