InstallAware Software Launches the “DevExpress Challenge” to Counteract Developer Express Inc.’s Use of Legal Scare Tactics.

01/21/2019 09:00 - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - (PR Distribution™)

InstallAware Software, the technology leader for building MSIX, MSI, EXE, and ARM64 setups, announced the receipt of legal scare letters from Developer Express Inc.

DevExpress violate their “no questions asked 60-day money back guarantee”. Help them prove InstallAware infringed their copyright and WIN an Apple iPhone XS Max 512 GB!

DevExpress claims that “By analyzing publicly available copies of InstallAware’s products, we have confirmed that they use functionality that is only available in versions of Developer Express’s VCL product after v.15.1.”, while simultaneously confirming InstallAware’s ownership of a valid product license: “We are aware of the old license from 2014. However, this license covers VCL Subscription v.15.1.”

“Our engineers attempted on two separate occasions to upgrade to newer releases of DevExpress VCL, both attempts of which were unsuccessful,” explains Drew Shubow, General Counsel at InstallAware Software. “They did not reflect kindly upon the experience, and claimed the money back guarantee.”

InstallAware repeatedly requested DevExpress to “Provide immediate evidence of infringing features absent in DevExpress VCL 15.1.11.”, which DevExpress declined: “It is unnecessary for us to provide further evidence of how InstallAware assembles it products or what components are included in them.”

“It appears DevExpress have may breached InstallAware’s EULA, and may have unlawfully reverse engineered our binaries, to find their undisclosed watermarks,” adds Drew Shubow. A free tool, with source code, reveals hidden DevExpress watermarks at www.installaware.com/devwater.asp.

“Take our DevExpress Challenge! Prove InstallAware ever used any feature not included in DevExpress VCL 15.1.11, and WIN an iPhone XS Max 512 GB! Happy to stand corrected, InstallAware will also resubmit the refunded amounts back to DevExpress,” announces Jason Strathmore, VP of Marketing at InstallAware Software. “We’re not about to take to Kickstarter for legal fundraising to combat these predatory sales tactics, but for this week only, we are taking 75% off all our monthly subscription plans:”
