It’s Time for Healing in the City

City-Wide Event Unites Local Leaders and Agencies for an Open Discussion on Leadership

With the city of Baton Rouge’s increasing crime rate as well as its ranking 1st in the state of Louisiana with the highest rate of AIDS cases, many may be ready for change. For this reason, as well as others, Heal the City the Boot Edition is taking place next month in Baton Rouge, LA.

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” – Frederick Douglas

Heal the City the Boot Edition is a one-day event filled with community leaders and dynamic speakers prepared to inspire hope and initiate change. Topics will include mental health, rape, molestation, domestic abuse, sexual health and well-being, leadership, and spiritual health. The goal is to provide sustainable, valuable resources to heal attendees and their families, individuals, and cities, in a safe and non-judgmental environment pushing individuals to first be self leaders.

President and director Laurinda Andujar initially started the Heal the City events in Homestead, FL in 2015 before incorporating them, creating a not-for-profit organization, and going on the road.  “As a child I was molested, attempted suicide, dealt with bullying, and suffered from low self-worth, among a myriad of other issues,” Andujar explains. “These issues impacted me well into my adult years manifesting in various ways. Trauma of any kind can be damaging. (If you) Compound that with rising unemployment, layoffs, broken homes and families, the results can be devastating to even the strongest of us!”

For these reasons, Andujar is bringing the city out for a day of healing. “You are NOT alone! I am beyond excited to bring Heal the City to Baton Rouge on August 11th. Come join myself, DA Hilar Moore, Mayor Broome’s Office, James Abram, Francheska Felder, Donna Janel, Suzanne Hamilton, Aaliyah White, and Dr. Cassandra Parks, and others as we share our stories of going from victim to victorious,” Andujar explains. Andujar is also a John C. Maxwell team member with years of professional speaking under her belt.

The event will also include various leaders in law enforcement and other phenomenal community leaders for a day of candid conversations and sustainable FREE resources, as well as a live performance by former artists of No Limit Records, Sons of Funk, and spoken word artist Kelton NSpire Harper, to assist with healing the city of Baton Rouge.

Many community partners like The Bridge Agency, East Baton Rouge Sherriff’s Department Community Policing Unit, The BRPD Community Policing unit, Phi Gamma Sigma Youth Sorority, Hope Community Services, The National Financial Literacy Campaign, and local talent such as Donna Butler of The Attitude Shift have teamed up with Heal the City Inc. to sow back into the community, not to mention those flying in to share their stories of trials to triumph and going from grief to greatness.

Beginning at 10 am, the event will be held at The Tracey Center located at 1800 S Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. For more information visit,http://www.healthecityinc.org.
