With over 27 years of professional experience as a practicing attorney, Mr. Michaels has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the legal field. As a dynamic results-driven leader, Mr. Michaels has demonstrated success not only as an Attorney but in every position he has ever held. His impressive repertoire of prior roles before starting his own practice have included, serving the United States Army, Court Coordinator for the Office of the Harris County District Clerk, Paralegal and Associate Attorney for O’Quinn & Laminack, PC, and Senior Associate for Davis & Shank, PC.
Mr. Michaels practice areas include commercial and civil litigation, including breach of contract, business disparagement, business fraud, and non-compete and non-disclosure clause litigation, business and transactional law, collections and creditor litigation, employment and insurance litigation, and commercial real estate. He has represented individuals, small businesses and corporations in litigation in state and federal district. He is licensed to practice in all state courts in Texas in addition to the federal district and bankruptcy courts in the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Michaels earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Government from the University of Houston Downtown and his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law. He is a certified mediator and qualified to mediate disputes under the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Procedures Act. Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Michaels has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the legal profession. He has received awards, accolades’, maintains his AV Pre-Eminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and has been featured in publications and magazines. For 2019 he is being considered for a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). For his selection as Top Attorney of the Year by IAOTP, he will be honored at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Also for 2019 he was the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who. In 2016, he was a top rated Litigator by American Legal Media and Martindale-Hubbell, recognized as a Top Lawyer in Commercial Law in the Texas’ Top Rated Lawyers by Houstonia Magazine and in 2015, he was recognized as a Top Lawyer in Commercial Litigation by H Texas Magazine. During his service in the army, Mr. Michael’s received many decorations and awards such as the Commendation Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, and Commendation Medal. Mr. Michaels has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
Mr. Michaels is active in his community and has served on numerous boards. He maintains involvement with the Houston Bar Association as the former Chair of the Law Practice Management Committee, on the Administration of Justice Committee, Former Secretary of the Law Proactive Management Committee; He is a member of the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association and a member of the National Arbitration and Mediation. Mr. Michaels was also the Former Director and President of the Harris County Municipal Utility District 238 from 1989-2003.
Aside from his successful career, Mr. Michaels is also an invited sought after lecturer, speaker and an attorney for veteran’s clinics with the Katy Bar Association. He has been an invited speaker at presentations for the Services Cooperative Association, the China Symposium of the International Trade Center of Houston, and the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
Looking back, Mr. Michaels attributes his success to his experience, mentors he has had along the way and staying true to his passion for the law. Mr. Michaels says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning. When not working he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. For the future, Mr. Michaels will continue to work hard, continue to seek justice and make a difference in people’s lives anyway that he can.
