Camp EDMO® transforms its educational camps to an  online experience for all kids, with honor system pricing

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 16, 2020 — In the face of the global health crisis affecting families worldwide and schools closures,Camp EDMO is offering two new ways to help keep learning alive for every kid who needs it - EDMO Live! (group sessions) and EDMO Coach (1-on-1 programs).

EDMO Live! was created in only a week’s time and initially launched at no cost in March, was followed shortly by EDMO Coach. Both programs are an outstanding show of the organization’s resilience during the COVID-19 crisis, said Ed Caballero, Camp EDMO’s Executive Director and Co-founder. As well as recognition of the current economic situation. Camp EDMO, which has had a mission since 2004 to fill an educational and/or time void for kids from all socio-economic backgrounds, especially those whose schools were not yet online or whose parents recently lost their jobs.

The idea behind EDMO Live! is to provide an interactive, camp-like learning experience for students in Grades K-8, with instructors leading hands-on activities with groups of kids almost every hour of the day. All sessions use household materials and a free conferencing platform, along with a moderate check-in process to ensure safety and privacy. Kids can join in sessions such as DIY Maker, Science, Roblox, Minecraft, or just get some extra help with homework should they need it. Announcements of new sessions for the following week are made available each Wednesday.

In order to make its programs financially accessible to as many families as possible, EDMO has introduced something new and radically different - Honor System Pricing, providing two “honor codes” for 50% or 80% off the already low program prices.  This new model is one they hope to use for camp programs moving forward.

“We believe that all children should have access to high quality learning enrichment programs that prepare them with both academic and social emotional learning skills,” said Ed Caballero, Camp EDMO’s Executive Director and Co-founder. “Today, it is more important than ever, as we face this crisis together, that all children should have equal opportunity to become the innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and world. That’s why we decided to take on the challenge of a lifetime: to create a live, equitable, online version of our camps for kids living in different-sized homes, with access to different materials, of different socio-economic backgrounds. We invite everyone to join us on the journey.”

EDMO Coach enables kids to receive tutoring services in their subject of interest and a coach for personal development — at the same time. Academic subjects like math, English and science are available, or kids can choose hobbies like knitting or animation, learn how to play the drums, do graphic design, learn advanced coding, speak French and much more. EDMO Coaches are talented, smart, passionate and kind people who are ready to build meaningful mentor relationships.

“My entire family thanks you for being there, we are absolutely loving your classes and we are recommending you to anyone who will listen. You have gone above and beyond to put content together and in an incredibly short period of time deliver it practically seamlessly with awesome ‘teachers’ for the kiddos using all the great features of Zoom... With limited school resources at the moment, I don’t know what we would have done over the past few weeks without your classes.  Your proactive communication, clear instructions and descriptions, level-headed perspective and just general awesomeness is so greatly appreciated in this unsettled time.”
-  Keren, mom of four EDMO Live! Kids, ages 8, 9, 10 & 11
