It’s no secret that senior living providers and nursing homes have been particularly hard hit by COVID in New York state, and Keepsake Village at Greenpoint is no exception. The 56-bed Memory Care community in Liverpool received their first positive resident case on Jul 2. But, thanks to weeks of diligence on behalf of their care team, all residents are now COVID-free.
“I’m so proud of everything my team has done,” said Michelle Gillespie, the building’s Executive Director. “It’s extremely difficult to explain the virus to seniors with Dementia and get them to wear masks or social distance, but my team really stepped up to the plate.”
Gillespie also credits strict cleaning standards to her team’s success. “Our Total Coverage 360 cleaning standards made a huge difference,” she explained. “The entire building is sprayed with non-toxic, green-certified disinfectant twice a day. Despite it being completely safe for people and pets, it has the proven ability to kill mold, bacteria and viruses, so it’s been a godsend for us.”
The state-of-the-art cleaning solution is produced via a generator inside Keepsake Village at Greenpoint. “It’s absolutely wonderful,” said Gillespie. “The generator uses electricity to change the chemical structure of salt and basic tap water to produce a cleaner that’s just as effective as bleach, but with no harmful chemicals or fumes.”
As far as the future of Keepsake Village at Greenpoint, Gillespie is optimistic. “The safety of our residents means everything to us, so to say we’re dedicated to keeping COVID out of our building is an understatement. We’re going to keep advancing the way we clean, the way we care for our residents, and the way we control the virus. This is just the beginning.”
