As the nation shifts its sites to the upcoming presidential election, one local senior living community is helping those who have shown the ultimate patriotism by fighting for our country’s freedom. Each month, team members at the Hearth at Hendersonville volunteer at the VFW Post 9851 and invite others to do the same.
“I’ve always appreciated veterans but volunteering at the VFW has given me an even deeper perspective,” said Sheri Gibson, The Hearth’s Executive Director. “As people who take care of seniors full time, it’s important that we get to know what they’ve experienced, and what they’ve sacrificed for our country’s history. Volunteering at the VFW definitely helps us do that.”
Most recently, The Hearth provided meals for members of AVVA, Association of Vietnam Veterans of America. “It was such a rewarding experience, and we can’t wait to do it again,” said Pat Wissel, The Hearth’s Director of Community Relations. “We’re trying to get a bigger group together. There’s no such thing as too much help for these vets!”
