So, why has oak reclaimed the title for most stylish cabinets? Well, first off, it holds a high utilitarian value, as oak is an extremely hard and durable wood that can withstand the wear and tear of a busy kitchen.
“Functionality is at the forefront of many home designs today, so it makes sense why oak has become so popular once more,” says Molitor of the shift.
Next, oak is very flexible, in that you can customize it to fit your own tastes. You can sand down and stain, glaze or even paint over it, but it’s the natural rustic appearance of the wood that pairs well with just about any color of kitchen appliance or decor makes it truly one of a kind.
