NEW BOULDER STARTUP TAKES ON COLORADO’S TALENT CRISIS HEAD-ON

Matchstik disrupts traditional recruiting, matching companies and candidates in an entirely new way  and skips resumes entirely.

Matchstik, a powerful new startup in Boulder, CO, announced the launch of its new website that aims to solve Colorado’s recruiting crisis head-on by eliminating the use of unreliable resumes and instead, aims to source candidates based on their natural strengths and skills.

According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Colorado’s unemployment rate for 2018 stayed close to three percent, lower than the national average. Such low unemployment currently makes it difficult for employers to find talent to fill their open roles, especially when they still use outdated methods to recruit candidates.

Despite record-low unemployment, many Coloradan workers remain disengaged in their jobs or struggle to find long term careers they love. Charles Causey, Matchstik’s founder, asserts that the current hiring system focuses too much on the resume, which presents an inaccurate picture of a worker's skills or abilities, and that this focus often places workers in jobs where they don’t feel truly successful.

Before founding Matchstik, Causey spent years working in the HR technology and recruiting sector. Over time, he recognized that employers often struggled with finding the right talent because they started with the wrong talent pool.. “The core problem is that all recruiting tools are based on the resume, and the resume does a terrible job of predicting how successful a candidate will actually be,” he stated.

Because of this, nice resumes may result in a hiring manager wasting time interviewing candidates with little to no potential versus candidates who are more likely to be successful.

Further, military spouses, moms returning to work, veterans, and those from disenfranchised backgrounds often find it especially difficult to illustrate their potential via a resume. Causey wants to divert hiring managers from handing out interviews based solely on resumes, creating more opportunities for those who may often be left behind by traditional recruiting methods.

“I think most of us have had moments where we realize that the system in which we operate makes it hard to fulfill the reason we went into the system in the first place,” Causey said. “I want to help hiring managers build great teams and help people connect to work they’re made for, and Matchstik is a tool to help us do that.”

ABOUT MATCHSTIK

Matchstik is a website that enables employers to source job candidates based on useful data points—a person’s natural strengths and skills—instead of based on their resume. The way Matchstik works is simple:  job seekers visitwww.mymatchstik.com and create a Matchstik Profile. Once job seekers sign up, they receive a free proprietary strengths assessment report. At the same time, Matchstik converts traditional job descriptions from their employer partners into a Matchstik Talent Benchmark—a digital sketch of the ideal candidate’s natural strengths and skills.  Using its patent-pending process, Matchstik then matches job seekers with job opportunities that fit their unique natural strengths and skills.

If you are an employer in the Denver or Boulder area and are interested in sourcing candidates from Matchstik, please visit the website or email [email protected].
