Oberheiden P.C., a federal compliance and defense law firm headquartered in Dallas, Texas, has announced several new affiliations with federal attorneys and consultants. With its practice focused on federal compliance and defense – and with particular emphasis in the health care field – the firm has been extremely busy during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and founding attorney Nick Oberheiden, PhD says he is pleased to see the need to add local counsel during this difficult time.

“We are excited to welcome five new attorneys and two new consultants to our firm’s network,” says Dr. Oberheiden. “Our firm has welcomed many new attorneys and consultants over the past several years, and I am pleased to be able to continue this growth during the COVID-19 crisis.”

Among the attorneys who have recently joined the firm’s network are independent counsel John Sellers, Joanne Fine DeLena, Terry Frank, Alina Veneziano, and Karina Petrie. The independent consultants include former federal agents James Hunt and Maura Kelley.

John Sellers is a former Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and former Acting Chief Investigative Counsel to the Special Inspector General for the Trouble Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP). Mr. Sellers worked in the federal sector for approximately 20 years and investigated and prosecuted cases involving matters including SOX violations, SEC fraud, commercial and residential lending fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes.

Joanne Fine DeLena is a former federal prosecutor who spent 17 years with the DOJ prior to joining the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Diversion Control Division. During her tenure with the DOJ, Ms. DeLena served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Washington D.C. Executive Office for United States Attorneys.

Terry Frank, Local Counsel in Virginia and North Carolina, is an experienced civil trial lawyer who focuses on defending business owners, corporations, financial institutions, and investors in commercial and consumer litigation disputes. Ms. Frank is the owner of Radiant Legal & Consulting, PLLC.

Alina Veneziano holds an LLM in Securities Law from New York University School of Law and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. She also holds an MBA in Healthcare Management and is currently writing a PhD thesis on U.S. securities at King’s College.

Karina Petrie, fluent in Portuguese and English, is a Brazilian lawyer. Before moving to the U.S., she represented banks, educational institutions, and individual clients, and volunteered to represent domestic violence victims.

James J. Hunt recently retired as the Special Agent-in-Charge (SAC) of the nation’s largest division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in New York. With more than 30 years of DEA and federal law enforcement experience, Mr. Hunt is one of the country’s top experts on the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), drug diversion investigations, and federal cases targeting DEA registrants.

Maura Kelley is a former Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who spent 30 years working in the agency’s Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland Divisions. During her tenure with the FBI, Ms. Kelley focused her work on investigating limited partnerships and other entities suspected of engaging in all forms of fraud and related federal crimes.

“These highly-experienced individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and invaluable insights to representing our clients,” says Dr. Oberheiden. “As the COVID-19 crisis continues, our firm is well-positioned to represent health care providers, PPE suppliers, testing labs, and other companies and individuals in federal cases across the country.”
