Rolling Meadows IL- On October 14th 2021 Obro, a local marketing firm, recently donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Donating and volunteering for local charities gives the team members at Obro a chance to help the community and giving back is a big part of the company culture. The team at Obro makes an conscious effort to donate to foundations that mean something to each employee. Obro will continue to donate & attend events every chance there is, to be able to help make a difference and help spread awareness to others.
Alzheimer's disease is an illness that causes memory loss and hinders the ability to do everyday things. It not only affects the brain, but it also affects physical movement, memory, and language. Approximately 5.8 million people in the United States ages 65 and older live with Alzheimer’s and 80% of them are ages 75 and older. Currently, Alzheimer’s is ranked #3 as being a leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer. In 2020, the Alzheimer’s Association raised more than $409 million dollars towards the foundation.
The Alzheimer’s Association holds different types of events to help raise donations and awareness for Alzheimer’s. The association works daily to get critical research for finding a cure to help people affected by this disease. “The Alzheimer's Association they hope to continue to raise awareness and get the research they need to find a cure” states Dr Joanne Pike, The president of the Alzheimer’s Association. Donating to such a powerful cause has touched the hearts of the Obro team members as many loved ones have passed from or are currently suffering from Alzheimer’s. "It felt good to give to a charity that hits close to home for me", says Co-Director of Operations, Michael Apan. Apan chose this charity to donate to because he lost his grandmother to Alzheimer’s. Apan states he will do everything he can to give back and help this organization.
There are many ways to help and give back, not just donating. Back in 2019, two years after losing his grandmother to Alzheimer’s, Michael and his family went to a walk benefitting the Alzheimers Association. Apan states, “Before this, I never understood how many people are affected by something like this and how it changes your life in so many ways. Co-Director of Operations, Weston Read states “I encourage everyone to attend an event like this with their family or join our team at Obro team to participate in future involvement!” The Alzheimer’s Association website states “Our advocates play a critical role in our efforts to influence the Alzheimer’s Association, we can be the difference in someone’s life.” Obro continues to donate and participate in many different organizations & charities each month.
