Thousands Will Run and Pledge to Support Prostate Cancer Research
Since 2010 The Blue Shoe Run for Prostate Cancer has raised more than $500,000 for prostate cancer research. In 2017 and again in 2018 the funds will benefit research through the TUCC Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
For the 9th year in a row The Blue Shoe Run will offer a 5k run/walk, 1.5 mile family walk, a kids fun run, and a Blue Warrors Walk (for advanced therapeutic clinic patients). The celebration includes a free after party with catered food, a beer garden, activities for kids and a themed survivorship tent for prostate cancer survivors to spend time with each other and The Urology Center of Colorado physicians.
The American Cancer Society estimates more than 164,000 new cases of prostate cancer in 2018. Research to understand this devastating disease is essential. “It is important to grow awareness so men begin the discussion with their physicians at age 50,” says Martha Ruschival, RN, BSN and Executive Director of the TUCC Foundation. “In addition to awareness, research is imperative to develop new treatments and understanding of prostate cancer with the hopes that one day, there will be a cure.”
In 2018 the goal of The Blue Shoe Run for Prostate Cancer is to raise more than $50,000 for research. This is a sanctioned race so serious runners can compete. And the run is family and pet friendly, so everyone will have fun. The race will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 starting at 8:00a.m. The run will start at The Urology Center of Colorado, just north of the Broncos Stadium, and the course goes around the stadium.
“This run is a celebration and day to remember for everyone affected by prostate cancer,” says Ruschival. “Not only do we raise money and support for research, but this gives patients, families, and friends affected by prostate cancer an opportunity to meet other people with similar experiences. Our tagline is, ‘Who are you running for’ because prostate cancers has an impact on so many lives.”
