POWHATAN, Va. — The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) today announced its selection of Sativa Testing Laboratories, LLC (STL) to assist the Agency with industrial hemp testing for the 2020 growing season. STL will support VDACS’s mission of monitoring industrial hemp grower compliance by testing industrial hemp samples to determine the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content, which under current federal and state law must not exceed 0.3%.
STL, Virginia’s first and only ISO 17025:2017 accredited lab for the testing of industrial hemp, won the contract through a request for proposal competitive bidding process. ISO 17025 is one of the most important accreditations for laboratories because it ensures standardized protocols and procedures yield accurate, reliable and defensible results. STL’s ISO accreditation is provided through AIHA-LAP, LLC.
“Our selection as VDACS’ first non-state laboratory to assist them with THC compliance testing is extremely gratifying,” said STL Lab Director Brandon Thorpe. “It caps more than a year’s worth of effort directed toward attaining our ISO accreditation, which we believe is critically necessary for any laboratories working in this space to ensure the viability and longevity of the industrial hemp industry.”
