On March 1st Auctions at Showplace will present choice selections of fine art, furniture, silver, jewelry, and decorative arts all fresh to the market from New York City estates.
Exceptional fine art includes two mixed media Folk Art compositions by important outsider artist Purvis Young, oils by Joachim Probst and Rolph Scarlett, and a pastel by Giosue de Benedictus entitled “The Empty Sleeve,” depicting a young girl with her father who has returned from war. Works on paper spanning centuries of art history include pieces by Rembrandt, Janus Lutma II, Jan Muller, Paul Cesar Hellu, George Bellows, Dave Bumbeck, Karel Apel, and Mihail Chemiakin.
Designer costume jewelry by Christian Dior, Isabel Canovas, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves St. Laurent, and Missoni, is complemented by a selection of handbags and scarves by Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Judith Leiber, Givenchy, and Hermes. Those in search of fine jewelry will find an impressive antique white gold, diamond, and emerald ring, a Boris LeBeau Platinum, 18K and ruby ring, a 14K yellow gold and enamel panther head ring, and a multi-strand pearl necklace with 18K and diamond clasp.
Mid-century modern furniture and design includes a Harvey Probber “Knights” bench model number 1173, a pair of Percival style leather upholstered armchairs, an Adrian Pearsall glass top coffee table, a Stilnovo attributed black sputnik form chandelier, a Serge Mouille attributed ring form chandelier, and a Pistello chromed metal flush mount fixture.
Other important items include a collection of sixteen gold coins from the United States, Germany, and Australia, two KPM hand-painted plaques including one portrait and one depicting a scene from Othello, a group of fine European clocks, fine porcelain and glass, and much more.
