State Farm and 100 Black Men of America, Inc.’s Investment In Youth Was On Full Display During The 2020 Virtual Dollars and $ense Competition

Atlanta, GA - November 11, 2020 – 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is pleased to announce the championship round winners of the Dollars and $ense Competition. The event took place on Saturday, November 7, 2020 and included three teams of high school students, who are mentees of 100 Black Men. Participants were given a financial scenario to solve that included budgeting for housing expenses, debt management and financing a business start-up. 

“I am so proud of the resilience our youth have displayed throughout this unprecedented year in world history. Our 2020 competition provided a global venue to display their resiliency. It was evident that 100 mentees remain steadfast and focused on participating in education and empowerment opportunities that equip and prepare them to reach current and future goals,” stated Thomas W. Dortch, Jr., Chairman, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. “Working collaboratively with our partner State Farm and 100 chapters across the country, we were able to successfully deliver a virtual Dollars and $ense Youth Investment Program to deserving students.” 

The financial literacy program awards over $10,000 annually and has been a 100 programmatic initiative for 15 years. Since its inception, the competition has included leaders and dedicated members from both State Farm and 100 Black Men of America, Inc. The 2020 Virtual Dollars and $ense Youth Investment Competition was supported and facilitated by the following moderator, emcee and judges:

  • Randie Brooks, Vice President and Relationship Manager, City National Bank
  • Dr. David Panton, Chairman, Panton Equity Partners & Lecturer, Emory University

  • Julian Thompson, Strategist, United Negro College Fund

“100 Black Men of America, Inc. and State Farm team up to provide financial education and youth leadership programs to students and communities around the country,” said Jason Roberts, Sales Leader at State Farm.  “We are proud to support the Dollars & $ense Youth Investment Program because we recognize financial literacy is critical to the future success of our young people."

Additional participants taking part in the first ever virtual championship round of the competition was Thomas W. Dortch, Jr., Chairman, 100 Black Men of America, Inc., Jada Jamison-Belser, 2020 Mentee of Year and Milton H. Jones, Jr., Treasurer. The competing teams, in the order of final results, were first place winner - 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc., second place winner - 100 Black Men of Central Illinois, Inc. and third place winner - 100 Black Men of Greater Charlotte, Inc., all delivering outstanding showings throughout the competition. The following exceptional scholars participated during the live online event:

  • 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc. - Angela Abongwa and Lensa Hamda with alternate Yohanna L. Hoskins
  • 100 Black Men of Central Illinois, Inc. - Alexander Phillips and Jake Tucker
  • 100 Black Men of Greater Charlotte, Inc. - Josh Perez and William Wylie with alternate Senai Austin

The 2020 overall participation included these additional 100 Black Men chapters and students from across the United States:

  • 100 Black Men of Cape Fear Region, Inc. - Holly Johnson and Malachi Griddine with alternate Dimraka Jones
  • 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, D.C., Inc. - Patrick R. Bell and Parker Bryant
  • 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Inc. - Raeghan Jefferson and Morgan Morris with alternate Dylan Devitt
  • 100 Black Men of New York, Inc. - Lamine Cone and Khadim Diop
  • 100 Black Men of North Metro Atlanta, Inc. - Jasir Best and Ethan Martin
  • 100 Black Men of Philadelphia, Inc. - Donovan Roland and Melania Diah
  • 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta, Inc. - Chavier McDaniels and David Wills
  • 100 Black Men of Greater Little Rock, Inc.
  • 100 Black Men of Greater Montgomery Inc.
  • 100 Black Men of Metro Baton, Rouge, Inc.
  • 100 Black Men of South Florida, Inc.
