(April 13th, 2020) - In response to the challenge many families are facing in locating basic supplies for their babies, San Leandro-based women’s medical clinic, Support Circle, began distributing diapers and wipes to parents that were unable to find them in their local stores. This week, the CEO, Albert Lee, reported that their Oakland location gave out around 3,000 diapers and wipes. They will continue doing so until their supplies are gone.
“We’re helping current and former patients who cannot find essential supplies for their babies due to coronavirus hoarding. An unplanned pregnancy can be frightening at this time, whether it’s a first-time pregnancy or she has other children. As economic conditions worsen, the work that we do at Support Circle will only continue to grow in importance. We will continue to provide diapers and wipes to our patients until our supplies are depleted,” Lee said.
Support Circle is a non-profit licensed medical clinic that provides early-pregnancy consultation and sexual health services in a welcoming environment of personalized care. Like most organizations, they are being financially impacted by the pandemic and were forced to cancel their annual fundraising event, which is responsible for a large portion of their bottom line each year. Despite the financial challenges, the clinics remain open, by appointment only, to patients faced with making critical health decisions and in need of medical attention. The clinics are taking additional Coronavirus precautions, including sanitation and screening measures, to protect both patients and clinic personnel.
