On January 1, 2020, Florida became the 11th state to adopt Remote Online Notarization and today, Barry L Miller, Esq. and The Closing Agent, LLC performed the first Remote Online closing. The closing took place in Orlando and the seller in the transaction was located in Port Orange, FL.
Until now, title companies were restricted to traditional in-person closings whereby buyers, sellers and witnesses had to be in the same room with a notary and include actual “wet ink signatures.” With this new legislation, the future of closing is officially here! Real estate transactions can now be conducted from the comfort of your home, office or virtually anywhere using secure technology providers within the parameters set forth by the State of Florida.
Not all notaries can conduct online notary services, the Florida Secretary of State is required to certify notaries after they complete a 2-hour course and examination. Barry L. Miller, Esq., President & CEO of The Closing Agent, LLC, was the first person approved to conduct online notarization. In addition, Lyliam Chau, the Assistant Vice President of The Closing Agent was the first women approved for online notary in Florida.
