The Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Bank of America to benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles held its 33rd annual event on September 14th and 15th, 2019 at Zuma Beach in Malibu, California.

The Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Bank of America to benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles held its 33rd annual event on September 14th and 15th, 2019 at Zuma Beach in Malibu, California. Thousands of participants and onlookers  including a variety of celebrities like Scott Eastwood, Luke Hemsworth, Mark Feuerstein, Geoff Stults, Steve Howey aBryan Greenberg, as well as top Olympians and pro athletes such as Jermaine Jones and Andrew Talansky  gathered to compete in the highly anticipated swim, bike and run events. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Bank of America helps support the Pediatric Cancer Research Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the world-renowned hospital.  This was the 23rd year that the Nautica brand partnered as title sponsor. 

Since it was established, the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, which is Executive Produced by Michael Epstein,  has now raised over $15 million to benefit basic and translational cancer research programs at the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  CHLA President and Chief Executive Officer, Paul S. Viviano and Alan Wayne, MD, Director of the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases, were on hand to accept the Nautica Malibu Triathlon Presented by Bank of America donation during the awards ceremony. The awards ceremony was led by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and six-time NBA champion.

At the 2019 awards presentation, the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented CHLA with an incredible $1,352,603 million dollars in funds raised. Bob Iger + team Disney presented CHLA with a check for $282,000 raised by their Triathlon team.

On Saturday, September 14th was the inaugural long race and olympic distance courses. Notable athletes such as U.S. Water Polo Team Member, Olympian John Mann and Professional Triathlete Pedro Gomes participated.  UCI World Tour rider Andrew Talansky came in first place in the Olympic Distance Course as champion followed by Professional Triathlete Jim Lubinski finishing in second place. Jim placed first in the Classic Distance race. Matthew Ison won 1st place overall in the Inaugural Long Course.

Saturday, September 14th, 2019 - Inaugural Long Course Race: 1.2 Mile Swim, 56 Mile Bike, 13.1 Mile Run Olympic Distance Race: 1.5K Pacific Ocean swim, a 40K bike course along the Pacific Coast Highway and a 10K run course along Zuma Beach. 

Sunday, September 15th, 2019 - Classic Distance Race: Half-mile ocean swim, 17-mile bike course and 4-mile run. 

The weekend kicked off with a VIP reception event held on Friday evening in Malibu. 

The 34th Nautica Malibu Triathlon will return to Zuma Beach on September 12th and 13th, 2020 and race registration will open later this year.
