Palm Springs, CA. (April 30th, 2020) – VIPdrv Test Drive is pleased to announce strong consumer activity in booking of test drive appointments for auto dealers across the U.S. in April 2020.
“The U.S. car market has obviously not returned to normal yet, but we are seeing very encouraging signs that there is pent-up consumer interest for new and used vehicles across the U.S.,” says Jason Putnam, founder and CEO of VIPdrv Test Drive.
In March 2020, VIPdrv saw an overall 42% drop in test drive bookings for auto dealers nationally. April saw a tremendous lift with greater than 200% increase in test drive appts. “Since launching in 2018, our footprint has grown substantial in the U.S. and we can see trends across the country that are indicative of consumer demand for autos. This demand isn’t tied to one, two or a few brands offering aggressive incentives. This increased activity is across the board, almost all brands, new, CPO and used vehicles,” says Jason
“Since early 2019, we’ve been providing dealers with the option for test drive delivery, to consumer home or office. Historically, those deliveries have always been less than 10% nationally. On March 9th, we noticed the start of a significant bump in bookings for home delivery, increasing daily thru end of March. Overall, March had a 50% increase for test drive deliveries. April had an incredible month with test drive deliveries spiking to well over 300%. In April, for the first time, we saw consumers select home delivery more than actual dealer visits for test drives,” says Mr. Putnam.
“The week of March 9th we saw an organic lift from test drives booked for dealership visit to those scheduled for home delivery. This was before we saw everything begin to shut down. Naturally people were becoming more apprehensive about venturing out, including visiting local dealerships. We quickly mobilized our team and worked with all our dealers across the country to make sure they had the delivery step enabled and were ready for the transition. April activity was the strongest we’ve seen to-date for test drive deliveries. This is a consumer shift and one that is going to continue on. We’re seeing the start of a new norm and dealers need to be prepared for it,” says Jason.
“I know we are not out of the woods yet, but it’s very encouraging to see customer demand increase for April in total test drive appointments. I’m also proud to be working with some of the best dealers in the country, those going above and beyond to deliver the best customer experience. I watched dealers adjust their business and processes overnight to accommodate our current situation,” says Jason.
